For more than 15 years of experience, Al-Shehab Foundation works to empower women on the economic and social levels by providing a comprehensive package of services represented in awareness and legal support (cases – consultations), psychological and social support, health awareness, and referral to economic empowerment programs, especially in light of the initiatives adopted by the state. The Egyptian Women’s Program and its strategic plans succeeded in reaching more than 42,106 women and providing them with services.
Women Programe
1. Project to Strengthen the Economic and Social Status of Families Dependent of Women (-2003) –Arab Women’s Association.
El-Shehab Foundation conducted a survey in the Ezbet Al-Haganah area to identify the economic and social conditions of female breadwinners and determine their needs to design interventions that suit those needs.Accordingly, 30 women benefited from training on Income-generating handicrafts and their involvement in the labor market.
2. A project to obtain official papers for women, birth certificates, and personal cards (2003-2012) – El-Shehab Foundation (Legal Unit) .
The Shehab Foundation, through its own efforts and with the intervention of (the legal unit within the institution), empowered 1,200 women within the Ezbet Al-Haganah area to obtain birth certificates –, personal cards and all official papers they need.This intervention helped Supporting and empowering women to benefit from government services (health – and social support……) And their ability to apply for jobs that meet their needs.
3. Defending the rights of domestic workers (2004-2006) – United Nations Women’s Commission.
El-Shehab, in partnership with UN Women, began the first program in Egypt to defend the human rights of domestic workers in informal communities. The project succeeded in providing legal and social support to 1,000 domestic workers. El-Shehab also called at the policy level for providing legal protection for domestic workers in Egypt. Accordingly, the project, together with the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower and Immigration, developed 8 standards to measure the professional competence of domestic workers as an essential step towards formalizing domestic work at the national level.
4. Improving the social and economic conditions of women and girls in the Ezbet El Haganah region (2007-2008) – Conimond, Spain.
The Foundation, in partnership with the Spanish Conemand Authority in 2007, contributed to improving the social and economic situation of women and girls in the Ezbet El Haggana region” By providing training courses to a group of young girls from the local community to enhance their skills and abilities to be able to join the labor market by identifying the basic employable life skills and the skills available in the community Ezbet Al-Haganah and the increase in girls’ knowledge and attitudes towards the contemporary market at that time, changing mechanisms and environments, and providing them with knowledge related to their rights to work in accordance with Egyptian law and the International Convention on Human Rights .
5. A project to raise the economic level of women in the Ezbet Al-Hajana area (2007-2008), Canadian Aid
The project aimed to improve the economic conditions of women in the Ezbet Al-Haganah region, help them raise the living conditions of their families, and raise their awareness of their right to work and their rights in accordance with international conventions and agreements. Educating them about the importance of relying on themselves to achieve work that achieves independence for them, prevents their exposure to violence and discrimination, and educating them about the danger of professions that would affect women’s health
6. Project to respond to the needs of women survivors of violence and those at risk of contracting HIV (2007-2009) – Spanish Embassy in Cairo.
In 2007, in cooperation with the Embassy of Spain, a project was implemented to respond to the needs of women survivors of violence and those at risk of contracting HIV in Alexandria Governorate , The project aimed to empower the most vulnerable women, improve their social and health conditions, and reduce their chances of being exposed to gender-based violence and HIV infection by providing 1,000 women survivors of violence with comprehensive information Through transmission and prevention methods from HIV, enhancing the capabilities of 300 women to access health, legal, psychological and social support services through service providers trained to provide quality, free of stigma And discrimination .
7. Improving the economic and social conditions of domestic workers – (2010-2013) – UN Women.
In 2010, in cooperation with UN Women, for a period of three years, the partnership aimed to improve the economic and social conditions of domestic workers through two main strategies: –
First: – Implementing an exploratory (updated) study of the situation of domestic workers and the violations they are exposed to help develop interventions and needs to reduce the gap between men and women in the labor market within 3 local communities.
8. Action Project for Marginalized Groups, which aims to contribute to the eradication of poverty and the empowerment of marginalized women (2013-2016) – Italian Cooperation in Cairo.
The project aimed to empower the most economically needy women through professional training on roof cultivation, the styling and beautification profession, the cooking profession, and the art of service, all of which are in addition to technical training on managing small and finished projects Small and marketing, in addition to designing and implementing 200 savings groups of women.
9. Improving the conditions of refugee and migrant women exposed to/and survivors of gender-based violence (2017-2018) – Embassy of the Netherlands in Cairo.
Within the framework of supporting refugee and migrant women who are exposed and survivors of gender-based violence, in 2017, the Shehab Foundation, in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy, created a safe and non-discriminatory environment for women and girls and allowed them to access services Different. The project succeeded, with the help of a trained team, in reaching 750 women and girls in Cairo and Alexandria governorates and referring them to the units specialized in providing services within the Shehab Foundation.
10. Safe cities and public places for women and girls (2012-2021) – American Aid – CARE.
El-Shehab Foundation, in partnership with American Aid and CARE, and a 10-year project in partnership with UN Women from 2012 to 2021 under the title “Safe cities and public places for women and girls” In Cairo and Alexandria governorates, it aims to address the vulnerability of the most marginalized women to access basic services that respond to their needs and address the underlying factors that increase various forms of violence and sexual harassment against women and girls, especially in places The public in Ezbet El-Haganah in Cairo Governorate , And the Algeciras region in Alexandria Governorate, providing them with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to prevent violence against women in public places by creating safe spaces for society in general and women in particular in transportation and public markets.
11 projects to create a safe space for marginalized women and those exposed to violence (2015-2017) – Embassy of Japan in Cairo.
The project aimed to create innovative safe spaces and implement a group of interventions that targeted women and girls in the Ezbet El Haggana area. These interventions and activities included (artistic and theatrical activities, community activities, sports activities, cooking exercises , and storytelling activities) with the aim of raising their awareness of their legal rights, skills, and how to report the violations to which they are exposed , In addition to organizing awareness-raising sessions aimed at raising their awareness of the concept of gender, equality, women’s rights, and basic skills that help them manage their daily lives.
12. Community interventions to reduce all forms of violence against women (2016-2021) – United Nations Trust Fund.
From 2016 until 2021, with the support of the United Nations Trust Fund of UN Women, El-Shehab implemented a project entitled “Community interventions to reduce all forms of violence against women” Based on the results of a baseline study that proved the existence of a close relationship between gender-based violence and HIV infection, El-Shehab ’s interventions began in four marginalized areas: (Ezbet Al-Haganah, Mokattam, Menashe Nasser, Ain Shams) targeted (commercial sex workers, intravenous drug addicts, domestic workers, And survivors of violence) as the project worked to reach those marginalized groups exposed to violence and HIV through a trained team, then connect them to reception centers in the four targeted areas and provide a complete package of Psychological, legal and health services, as the project reached 7,285 women and girls from the target groups , Within the framework of empowering them, achieving financial independence, and not relying on a partner, and through the referral unit, the project linked 805 beneficiaries to empowerment and economic rehabilitation training in accordance with the requirements of the labor market inside or outside the institution, as these varied Training between cooking, marketing, sewing, embroidery, and hairdresser training. On the other hand, the project was interested in involving men and youth from the target community and working with the partner to reduce violence against women in parallel with the community response to HIV.
13. A project to create a permanent economic model for the neediest women 2018-2022 Drusus.

13. Entrepreneurship project for the neediest women 2018-2022 Ashoka Organization, Arab World.
The Ashoka Arab World Organization launched an initiative called “Your Dream is Your Idea ” In 2018, it aims to economically empower women at risk and sexual exploitation from the ages of 21 to 30 to become entrepreneurs capable of establishing their own for-profit projects that ensure that they live in dignity and manage their lives.
The organization cooperated with the El-Shehab Foundation, which was chosen to implement this initiative ، Due to her long experience in dealing with the target group and providing multiple specialized support programs, she has achieved great success in empowering women at risk and sexual exploitation.
